PhotoPin - Free Photos for Bloggers

I recently read about PhotoPin and think it's the best thing since sliced bread. For some time, I've used Flickr Creative Commons as a "go to" source for images to be used for posting online or in the classroom. PhotoPin taps Creative Commons images too, but makes it super easy to place the proper link for Creative Commons attributions. Since we are always emphasizing to our students that proper credit be given when using others' resources, PhotoPin makes this much easier to comply with.  Here's what the simple PhotoPin interface looks like:

You simply type search terms describing the image you want to find.  The results page will first show images that you need to pay for, but if you scroll down, you will find  images that are free to use (with proper Creative Commons attribution).  Here's an example for a search for Machu Picchu, which from my previous blog post, you can see that I will be visiting.

OK, so that's pretty nice so far, but here's the best part.  When you select the image you want to use, here is the information that comes up.  As you can see, you get to choose the size of the image you want, you get a download link for the image, and, best of all, you get the html code to copy/paste in order to give proper attribution.

And, so using PhotoPin as described above, here is the image of Machu Picchu that I chose (I know that the photo I take when I get there won't be this nice-- I'm just not a great photographer!).  As you can see, by pasting in the html code provided, I've given the correct link back to the creator of the image.  Hope you and your students make great use of PhotoPin!
